MALINDO'S MAIDEN FLIGHTS TO BALI AND JAKARTA WELL RECEIVED

TheStar :  Friday September 27, 2013

Malindo will have 10 new aeroplanes added to the fleet every year as part of plans to own 100 aircraft in 10 years.

DENPASAR: Malindo Air’s inaugural flights to Bali and Jakarta in Indonesia yesterday and Monday, respectively, have been well-received.

The all-inclusive one-way fares from Kuala Lumpur were almost fully booked by Malaysians and tourists.

“We’re excited by this great potential. This further reinforces Kuala Lumpur as an important Asian gateway. Our strong business and cultural ties to Indonesia make us a natural departing point for flights across the region,“ Malindo chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said in a statement.

Malindo will have 10 new planes added to its fleet every year as part of its plans to own 100 aircraft in 10 years’ time.

Malindo also has plans to own a 787 Dreamliner by 2015.

“In the meantime, we cannot disclose when we would open for India and Southern China, as we are pending approval from their authorities,“ said Malindo director of public relations and communications Raja Sa’adi Raja Amrin, who spoke as a proxy for Chandran, who was absent due to unforseen circumstances.

Offering daily services by the newly flown-in Boeing 737-900ER, the frequency of flights may be increased if demand continued to pour in, the airline said.

Construction is ongoing for a new terminal for Bali’s Ngurah Rai Denpasar Airport, which has a single runway coping with 23 incoming and outgoing flights per hour.

The three-trillion-rupiah airport will be completed by next May.

Meanwhile, Raja Sa’adi squelched concerns about Malindo’s safety and precautionary procedures post sister company Lion Air’s accident in Bali in April.
Malindo’s maintenance as well as cabin staffing are handled by National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd.

“They undergo rigorous training and adhere to the highest standards.”

MASWINGS UNVEILS 50TH MALAYSIA DAY LOGO ON ITS AIRCRAFT

Borneo Post :  Posted on September 13, 2013, Friday

KOTA KINABALU: MASwings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, has taken the initiative to unveil the 50th Malaysia Day logo on its aircraft.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said as the main community airline in Sabah and Sarawak, the effort undertaken by MASwings was expected to go a long way in further strengthening the unity in Malaysia.

“Corporate bodies too can play a role in helping create better awareness on the true meaning of Malaysia Day, including displaying the Malaysia Day logo such as the one unveiled by MASwings.

“It is my hope that more Malaysians will reflect on our shared history, whereby the two Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak together with the Federation of Malaya helped form a new country,” he said at the unveiling of the logo on MASwings’ new ATR72-600 and Twin Otter DHC6-400 aircraft at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here yesterday.

Musa said Malaysia Day, which falls on September 16, was a historic occasion that brought together the people of Sabah, Sarawak and the Peninsular.

“In the last five decades, we have overcome many challenges and seen transformations in many sectors. The aviation sector too has gone through phases of growth and today, air travel has become a lot more accessible with the introduction of community and budget airlines,” he said in his speech delivered by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

Musa said tourism was an important sector in Sabah’s economy and was featured prominently in the Sabah Development Corridor and the Federal-led Economic Transformation Programme.

“MASwings’ role is indeed very important in Sabah as part of our efforts to further promote tourism beyond Kota Kinabalu,” he said.

MASwings chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nawawi Awang said the specially designed 50th Malaysia Day logo with the Jalur Gemilang featured within the number ‘0’ plus the salutation ‘Tahniah Sabah dan Sarawak’ (Congratulations Sabah and Sarawak) was painted on the two new MASwings’ aircraft for operations within Sabah and Sarawak.

“This is a historic celebration for the whole nation and our way (displaying logo on the aircraft) to congratulate the people of Sabah and Sarawak for their significant development and economic growth,” he said.

He also said MASwings would be launching a special airfare promotion called “Everyday Low Fare” on all domestic routes on September 16.

“This is the very first time that MASwings has come up with a very special fare with up to 80 per cent discount being offered dedicated especially to all our valuable customers,” he said.

Mohd Nawawi said booking period for the promotion would be on Sept 16 to Dec 17, 2013 for travel period from Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2013.

IRAQI AIRWAYS : 13TH MIDDLE EASTERN AIRLINE ARRIVES IN KLIA

Hello again,

SEPANG – Malaysia Airports is pleased to announce that Iraqi Airways, the national carrier of Iraq has re- commenced its operations to Kuala Lumpur, after a period of 34 years,  offering two flights weekly on Baghdad – Kuala Lumpur route.

Iraqi Airways will operate to Kuala Lumpur on Tuesdays and Saturdays, using Boeing 777 type of aircraft.  The flight from Baghdad to Kuala Lumpur takes approximately eight and a half hours.

The inclusion of Iraqi Airways takes the number of Middle Eastern airlines serving KL International Airport (KLIA) to 13, offering connections to various capital cities in the Middle East. The other Middle Eastern airlines flying to KLIA are Iran Air, Emirates, Gulf Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Kuwait Airways, Yemenia Yemen Airways, Mahan Air, Oman Air, Royal Jordanian and Egypt Air. Iraqi Airways is the 64th international airline operating at KLIA.

In today’s welcome reception, Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports led the Malaysian delegates in greeting Iraqi Minister of Transport, Mr Hadi Al Ameri together with the arriving passengers of Flight  IA 455 from Baghdad.

Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad said, “Malaysia Airports warmly welcomes the return of Iraqi Airways to Kuala Lumpur and wishes them success for this operation. The inclusion of Iraqi Airways further added to KLIA’s international network and offers passengers with new, direct connection to Baghdad, famous for its rich historical heritages.”

"We are looking forward to the resumption of services by other airlines such as British Airways and Qantas. We have had several meetings with British Airways to encourage them to recommence their services to KLIA. Last year we invited a British Airways (BA) team to Malaysia to assess the market. Following this visit, BA has indicated an interest to return. We will continue to engage them and hope that they will make a favourable decision. We have also had exploratory discussion with Qantas to encourage them to resume their services as well." he added.

So far this year, KLIA has welcomed six new airlines such as Thai Smile, Malindo Air, Air France, Turkish Airlines, Philippine Airlines and Iraqi Airways.

“1.23 million passenger movements from the Middle East region was registered for the first half of 2013 which represented  a growth of 13.4%, compared to the same period in 2012. We foresee the Middle East region to continue contributing to higher number of passenger movement this year, especially with the inclusion of new airlines from Middle East,” said Bashir.

Iraqi Airways was founded in 1945. The first planes used were Dragon Rapides. For the next fiscal decade, until 1955, these planes were alternated with Vickers Viscounts. By 1955, however, the Viscounts took over all of Iraqi Airways' services. The 1960s arrived, and so did the jet age. Iraqi Airways was quick to modernize, buying Russian built Tupolev TU-124 planes as well as British built Tridents.

MALINDO TO PLY 2 NEW ROUTES

TheStar : Published: Saturday August 31, 2013

PETALING JAYA: Malindo Air, after six months in operation and with nearly a dozen routes on its network, will begin plying the Jakarta and Bali routes next month.

It will be its maiden entry into Indonesia and will give Malaysians more connectivity to Jakarta and Bali, while Indonesians will get a new gateway into KL International Airport (KLIA) and the rest of the world.

This was also the plan when the hybrid airline, which offers premium amenities at budget prices, was set up, i.e., to give Indonesians a new transit hub via KLIA to the world.

Lion Air now also has a new option of ferrying its passengers from all over Indonesia to KLIA and beyond via Malindo.

Malindo is 49% owned by PT Lion Grup, which owns Indonesia’s biggest domestic carrier, Lion Air. The balance 51% of Malindo is held by a Malaysian investor.

Malindo said it would fly daily from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta beginning Sept 23 and from KL to Bali from Sept 26.

The all-inclusive fares for the routes will start from RM159 to Jakarta and RM199 to Bali.

“Their entry into the KL-Jakarta and KL-Bali routes would put pressure on other airlines to dump fares, but bodes well for travelers. We are already seeing fares falling on some of the routes that Malindo is currently plying,” an expert said.

“Fares have dropped on the KL-Kota Kinabalu and KL-Kuching routes and also the KL-Dhaka route, and all this is because of competition,” the expert said.

Malindo chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said in a statement that the flights were the latest addition to Malindo’s long-term plan to convert KLIA into a regional gateway, as the services between KL-Jakarta and KL-Bali would allow convenient connectivity for passengers on the Dhaka-KL service.

Malindo’s new Jakarta and Bali services further reinforce Kuala Lumpur’s position as an important Asian gateway.

The airline will use the Boeing 737-900ER aircraft for the connectivity.

Malindo currently plies 11 destinations via two hubs, KLIA and Subang Skypark. It plans to fly to 20 destinations by the year-end.

3 DIFFERENT LIVERIES FOR MALAYSIAN AIRLINES

Hello again,

In our most honest opinion, we think the most recognizable and classic livery is Deutsche Lufthansa AGL commonly known as just Lufthansa and sometimes internationally as Lufthansa German Airlines. It is the flag carrier of Germany and the largest airline in Europe, both in terms of overall passengers carried and fleet size.

The airline is the world's fourth-largest airline in terms of overall passengers carried, operating services to more than 70 countries across Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe.

Somehow, it is quite interesting to see that MH planes are equipped with 3 different liveries.

Who knows, MH will come out with 4th livery...

Till then, see ya!
