Hello again,
We guess, it is not too late for us in DCA Sandakan to wish all of you a blessed Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and Happy Merdeka to everyone.
For the record, Hari Raya Aidil Fitri marks the end of Ramadan month, the conclusion of 29 or 30 days (based of Hijrah Lunar calendar) of fasting from dawn to sunset. It expresses the communal aspects during fasting like empathy to the poor, steadfastness, charity, patience and etc.
And Merdeka is commemorating Malaya's independence on August 31st, 1957 and Dataran Merdeka where the first ceremony raising the flag of Malaya was held following independence. Although Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore merged later in 1963, the term remains pertinent in the present and however, September 16th is celebrated as Malaysia Day.
That's unique about Malaysia.
Such a rare occasion that merely happened once in gazillion years where we have double celebrations like this again. As usual, rendang, ketupat, ambuyat nasi himpit, burasak, Raya cookies, dodol and lots of mouth-watering dishes are being served special for the day. Some even make decorative Malaysian flag cake. Wonder if we could eat real moon or pointed star.
And even Google browser puts up special Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and Merdeka creative doodle to commemorate the double occasions. A very delightful and pleasant thing to see it on world wide web. Part of tourism campaign I guess but it's a 5-star effort by Google Malaysia.
Well done. It's wonderful. It's colorful.
While most countrymen are celebrating long week of holidays with their families, it is work as usual for many Air Traffic Controllers all around Malaysia. Even some has celebrated the festival away from home for three consecutive years. (Not too exaggerated I guess).
Well, yeah, we are always in high spirits working during Hari Raya Aidil Fitri because we know our duty in ensuring the movement of the aircrafts are smooth so that the people can always celebrate their Hari Raya with loved ones with joy. I hope that statement doesn't really sounds sad.
Not a sacrificial lamb though !! Sigh !!
Great, thanks to technology, we are stepping towards 21st century, some are celebrating it through 3G mobile phones, SKYPE, Yahoo Messenger, SMS, MMS and only God-knows-abbreviations. At least, we have a choice anyway.
Not to be forgotten, many many thanks to TV3 and NTV7, the highlights of Air Traffic Controllers working during Hari Raya Aidil Fitri should be given thumbs-up. The sweetness of looking at arriving and departing aircrafts are so nice and everyone should see how smooth they are especially when you are running on Non-Radar Services. Attached are uploaded mp4 version of clips for you to watch.
Before we conclude, we would like to wish all readers Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri Maaf Zahir dan Batin and Happy Merdeka.
See ya!!
